Fresh breath dental sticks can make daily mouth care easier, but the right choice depends on your pet’s species and size. Pedigree Dentastix offers separate options for large and small dogs, while Pet Honesty and Denties provide other dog chew formulas. Petstages Fresh Breath Mint Stick is a cat toy, not a dog dental treat. Compare the intended pet and product features below before choosing.

Pedigree Dentastix Large Breed
Best for: Large-breed dogs weighing 40 pounds or more. This formula is sized for large dogs and is intended for one treat a day, according to the product information.
The X-shaped design and chewy texture are described as helping scrape plaque while the dog chews, including around harder-to-reach areas. The listed triple-action benefits include cleaning teeth, reducing tartar buildup, and freshening breath. This is a straightforward choice for buyers who want a daily dental chew made specifically for larger dogs.
Limitation: The product is labeled for dogs 40 pounds and up, so it is not the appropriate size choice for smaller dogs.
Pet Honesty Mint Dental Treats
Best for: Dog owners seeking a mint-flavored dental chew with additional listed oral-care ingredients. Pet Honesty describes the ridged texture as helping clean teeth down to the gumline during chewing.
The formula includes mint, flaxseed, parsley, postbiotics, and sodium hexametaphosphate (HMP). The brand says postbiotics support a healthy oral microbiome and HMP helps address plaque and tartar buildup. Turmeric is also included, and the product description says it helps reduce inflammation in the mouth. These ingredient details make this option distinct from a basic textured chew.
Limitation: The product information provided does not specify an appropriate dog weight range, so check the package directions for serving and sizing before buying.
Pedigree Dentastix Small & Toy Breed
Best for: Small-breed dogs weighing 7 to 22 pounds. The product is designed for smaller dogs, with the same general X-shape and chewy-texture approach as the large-breed version.
Pedigree says the chew helps clean teeth, freshen breath, and reduce tartar buildup as the dog chews. Its shape is intended to reach around teeth, while the listed serving guidance is one treat a day. The 102-count package may suit buyers who want a larger supply of daily dental treats for a dog within the stated weight range.
Limitation: The stated weight range is specific; dogs outside 7 to 22 pounds should not be assumed to fit this formula.
Denties Mint and Spirulina Dental Sticks
Best for: Dogs up to 75 pounds, according to the product name. This is an option for shoppers looking for a firm, textured chew with mint and spirulina.
Denties says the stick’s texture works against teeth and along the gumline during chewing, helping sweep away debris and supporting plaque and tartar reduction. The listed recipe has no added sugar or artificial colors. At 16 ounces and 22 treats per pack, it offers a different package format from the count-based Pedigree and Pet Honesty options.
Limitation: The product description emphasizes mechanical cleaning through chewing; it does not provide a specific daily serving instruction in the supplied details.
Petstages Fresh Breath Mint Stick
Best for: Cats that enjoy biting or chewing toys. Unlike the other picks, this is not a dog dental treat. Petstages describes it as a mint-filled net toy intended for cats.
The product features say the durable net can remove soft tartar as cats bite and that the mint scent refreshes them. The description also notes that mint is related to catnip and appeals to many cats. Choose this if you are specifically shopping for a cat chew toy rather than an edible dog dental stick.
Limitation: It is a toy, not a dog treat, and the listed information does not describe it as an edible dental stick.
Buying Guide: How to Choose Fresh Breath Dental Sticks
Which size should you choose?
Start with the package’s stated weight range. The Pedigree large-breed version is for dogs 40 pounds and up, while its small and toy-breed version is for dogs 7 to 22 pounds. Denties lists dogs up to 75 pounds in its product name. Do not assume that a stick intended for one size range is suitable for every dog.
Do you want a treat or a toy?
Dog dental treats are chews intended for dogs. The Petstages Mint Stick is described as a cat toy, so it is the different category in this comparison. Confirm the intended animal and use before purchasing, especially when searching broadly for fresh breath sticks.
Which ingredients or textures matter?
For a textured chew, compare the X-shaped Pedigree design with Denties’ firm stick texture and Pet Honesty’s ridged chew. If ingredients are a priority, Pet Honesty lists postbiotics and HMP, while Denties lists mint and spirulina. These descriptions are product claims, not a substitute for veterinary advice or dental care.
Can dental sticks replace brushing?
These products are described as supporting oral care while pets chew. The supplied information does not say they replace tooth brushing or professional veterinary dental care. Ask a veterinarian for a routine that fits your pet’s oral health needs.
